We Tore The Place Down
From the archive. This issue went out June 28, 2026 and is kept as it was sent. Anything it says about prices or dates was true then — for what things cost today, see the pass or the store.
Week three: we tore the place down to the studs
Five daily drills, Monday to Friday. A free fiction shelf with its own cover art. Seven field guides. A manifesto. A map you can wander like a game. The Method went free. And the whole building got rebuilt to read like a newspaper. Here’s all of it, section by section.
- Monday: Ship It Ugly
- Tuesday: The Front Door
- Wednesday: The 48-Hour Demand Test
- Thursday: Repurpose Drill – one post, five placements
- Friday: The Friday Shutdown
- The Build: The Method goes free, a fiction shelf opens, the whole place becomes a newspaper
- The Signal: GZS After Dark runs its first full week
Three weeks in. The lights are still on, ya’ll.
Week one was ceremony. Week two was the machine finding its rhythm. Week three we picked up a crowbar and went after the walls.
Honestly, this was a build week start to finish. The daily briefs kept landing every morning at 6, same as always, but the real work was happening underneath. We gutted the look of the whole network and rebuilt it to read off the same press as this letter. Black ink, hand-cut engravings, a yellow mark for the things that matter and red saved for one door only. It looks like a newspaper now because that’s what it is. A daily paper from a building that doesn’t exist on any map but is somehow open every morning anyway. Let’s fuckin’ go!!!
And I digress… here’s the week, the way it actually happened.

MON // Monday – Ship It Ugly
The polish is where the thing goes to die
Monday’s drill was the one nobody wants to hear. Your thing isn’t out in the world yet, and the story you keep telling yourself is that it needs more time in the shop. Real talk, ya’ll? You’re hiding inside the polishing. It’s already good enough to go meet a human.
A rough thing in front of a real human beats a perfect thing in your head every single time. The perfect version never has to survive contact with a buyer, which is exactly why it feels so safe to keep working on it. So we put a clock on it. Ship the ugly version today. Fix it in public after.
TUE // Tuesday – The Front Door
What does a new person hit first, and does it tell them where to go
Tuesday we walked the front door. Somebody finds you for the first time. What’s the first thing they see, and does it point them at the one next move you actually want them to make?
Most front doors are a coat of paint over a hallway with no signs. The drill: pick the single next action, then strip everything in the way of it. One door, one sign, one step. The rest is decoration that’s costing you people.
WED // Wednesday – The 48-Hour Demand Test
Prove they want it before you build the damn thing
Wednesday’s drill is the one that saves you weeks of building something nobody asked for. Write the sales page first. Put a real buy button or a wait-list on it. Ask for a handful of pre-orders inside 48 hours. If it clears the bar, build it. If it doesn’t, you just dodged a month of wasted nights.
We’ve got a full field guide on this exact move if you want the long version, the pre-sell playbook start to finish.
THU // Thursday – Repurpose Drill
One post, five placements
Thursday was the laziest-in-a-good-way drill of the week. You already wrote the thing. Now get five pieces out of it instead of one. Pull the quotes, cut the thread, carve the short version, point them all back home. Stop making new stuff when the stuff you already made is sitting there working a single shift.
FRI // Friday – The Friday Shutdown
Close the week before the week closes you
Friday’s drill is ten minutes and it’s the one that keeps you from carrying the whole operation in your skull all weekend. Answer the real human replies. Note the one number that moved. Name what you’ll do about it. Then shut the laptop and go be a person.
I mean it. The work will still be here Monday. It always is. Go touch some grass, fam.
// // The Build – The Method, a fiction shelf, and a whole new look
The biggest week of building yet
Here’s where week three actually went. While the daily briefs ran on autopilot, we put up more new ground than any week so far.
The Method went free. The whole flagship playbook, the one that lays out how this operation actually runs, is now a free front door at /method/. No gate. It’s the manual, not a teaser for the manual.
We also opened a free fiction shelf. Weird fiction, the Transmissions From the Fringe serial plus a stack of standalone stories, every one carrying its own inked cover art drawn for the story. No email trade, no unlock-chapter-one con. If a story doesn’t have you by page two, you walk and it cost you nothing. There’s a manifesto nailed up next to it now too, called A Hole Cut in the Fence. That’s the whole philosophy of this place, written down.
And the field guides. We torched a junk drawer of scattered posts and put up seven deep guides in their place, each one run all the way to the floor with its own FAQ. Plus an Explore index so you can actually find the thing, the radio history pages telling the long strange OMVFM story, and the Codex, an interactive map of the whole site you wander like a game instead of clicking down a flat menu like you’re filing a claim with the county.
The full build log walks through every piece of it.
WHAT WENT UP THIS WEEK
- The Method – now free — The full flagship playbook, no gate. The manual for running a one-person operation that doesn’t eat you alive.
- The free fiction shelf + the manifesto — Weird fiction with original cover art, free to read. And A Hole Cut in the Fence, the philosophy of the place written down.
- Seven field guides — We ate the junk drawer. Seven subjects run to the floor, each with its own FAQ. Less to wade through, more worth reading.
- The Codex – a map you wander — An interactive map of the whole site. Poke a dead corner, a room you didn’t know existed opens up. Built to feel like a game.
- Radio history – the OMVFM story — The long strange past of the station behind all this. Most places lock the lore in a vault. We set it on the shelf.
- The full build log — Every piece of this round, why it went up, in words you can use. We build this thing in the open. Come watch.
Under all of it was one push: make the whole place easy to move through. Find the thing, read the thing, leave when you want, come back when you want. No maze, no dark patterns, no fifteen clicks hunting for the exit.
// // The Signal – GZS After Dark
The late-night block ran its first full week
After Dark went on the air last week. This week it ran a full seven nights. The DJ sets, the custodian breaks, the whole after-midnight character of the station got built out and put into rotation. It’s weird and it’s supposed to be weird.
GZS runs 24/7. The After Dark block is its own animal. You’ll know it when you hear it. Tune in.
// // The Morgue – Last Week’s Dispatch
Issue 025, “What We Built,” is in the archive. The week-two roundup, the new tier and the AI DJ and all of it. If you missed it or want to hand it to somebody new, that’s the link.
// // The Founding Window
Quick honest note while it’s still true. The All-Access founding rate is $47, and it moves to $97 after July 5. That covers the full archive, the Underground, every product in the vault. If you’ve been standing in the doorway, that’s the number, and the window’s closing.
If you’re already inside, you don’t need a thing from me. The file stays open either way. But if you know somebody out there who ought to be in this building, this is the week to hand them the key, before the rate changes.
[ WALK IN – $47 THROUGH JULY 5 ]
Next Sunday rounds up week four. The machine keeps running whether anybody’s watching or not. Stay in the branch, ya’ll. ~ J.D.
